Article marketing is today more competitive than ever so the last thing you want to do is write and submit articles with errors. You want people to not only open your article but to read it, like what they read and click through to your website, sales letter or blog. However you need to have a good understanding of the basics of article marketing so you can avoid the common mistakes of article marketing. Here are some of the errors that marketers should avoid in article marketing.

Bad or Inappropriate Headlines.

Writing attention grabbing headlines are great provided the headline matches the article content. It stands to reason that if you spend time writing a good article then you want to get it read as many times as you can. If you have a bad headline or one that is meaningless then your chance of getting your article read is very low. What you need is an attention grabbing headline that reflects the content of your article as this will help give you credibility so that if people like your article they will want to read more.

Not Targeting Your Audience.

Before you write your article you need to work out who you are targeting to read your article. To do this you need to research your niche and find out what the people in this niche are interested in as your article should be written to focus on their needs, concerns or desires. Therefore you need to write your article to target your audience and not merely write about something that you think may be of interest to them.

Excessive Article Publishing.

Some marketers think that you need to publish your article in lots of categories in article directories, newsletters and sites. However this is considered spamming and most reputable directories will either only accept original articles or delete all your articles. What you should aim to do is have well written articles and publish them just enough so that other people will pick them up and republish them on their websites, newsletters and blogs. If you are serious about starting and online business than there are only a couple requirements you need to be successful.

· MindsetInternet marketing is a dynamic, ever changing environment and requires a good work ethic. It is not a get rich quick, no work required business, no matter what someone else tries to sell you. You need a good business plan, and a good work ethic to complete the tasks required to carry out that plan.

· Have a niche – You must have a product or service that you are interested in selling. It should be one that either you are passionate about or know a great deal about. You will then need to have something of value to offer and then brand your niche around the value you offer.

OK, for those that really know what they want, have the work ethic required and a product or service they wish to market online than there are a few things you will need. These may seem obvious however doing this step by step correctly, will save you a lot of valuable time and money.

· Pick a keyword rich domain name – You will need a domain name that is relevant to your niche and the words used in your domain names (many use more than one) should be a keyword or a keyword phrase.

· Website – You will of course need a website and not just any site will do. I highly recommend using a WordPress site to start because they are very professional with an easy to learn CMS (control management system). Lots of internet marketers talk about keyword search and how important it is for any online business. However what exactly is keyword research and why is it so important for any business on the net. 

What is Keyword Research?

If you have the mindset and the skills required for starting an online business than the first step is getting your first customers. Many struggle with how to get their first customers, so here are a few helpful tips.

Almost every small business starts with selling to their inner circle of friends and colleagues. They are the easiest to reach in the shortest amount of time. The most important aspect of selling is to give your audience value, make no mistake about it, if you have no real value you will not be in business long. By supplying your customer value you will likely have return customers, leading to more sales. This is the key to being successful in any business and is what all successful companies market, value and return customers.

List building is an essential part of any online business and should be a high priority. Think of this as a highly targeted customer list. Offer them something of value at no charge to sign up to your list. This could be anything your customer wants or thinks they need. The fun part is you can experiment with different things to see what works and what does not. I know companies that offer discounts on first time purchases, coupons, newsletters with discounts, etc…

I highly recommend using a first class, automated email collection system such as Aweber to eliminate the possibility that someone thinks you are spamming. Aweber is the worlds best autoresponder and has a double opt-in system. Article marketing is only one of the many effective ways to advertise your business online. It can also be used to advertise an offline business online to supplement your offline advertising.

So how do you write an article that is an effective marketing article? Here are a few tips to help you write your marketing articles.

Main Keyword or Keyword Phrase.

Effective articles need to be targeted to keywords or keyword phrases to be effectively picked up and ranked high by the major search engines. So select a main keyword or phrase to use when writing your article.

Articles themselves need to be written a bit different if they are for article directories, blog posts, web pages, ezines and so on. So determine the main reason for your article before you begin to write it.

Article Title.

This to me is the most important part of your article because people determine whether they read your article or not based upon it’s title. It should be written to catch peoples attention and should include your keyword phrase so that it gets picked up in searches. So in a nutshell it needs to catch the attention of not only readers but the search engines as well.

To get some good ideas for titles you can check out article directories for titles that catch your attention because they will catch the attention of others as well.

 What Do People Want to Know About?

Do some research to find out what people want to know about regarding your business, products or niche. Discussion forums are one good source for this information. Every day my email box is full of emails about making money online from home using affiliate programs. The relevant question here is to ask “Is it really possible to make money online with affiliate programs?”.

If the answer is “No” then you can conclude that the people promoting these products are making money from these products and not from marketing affiliate programs. However if you look closely at what they are promoting then you will realize that they are in act in the majority of cases actually promoting affiliate products. That’s right these products about making money with affiliate products are in fact affiliate products.

So to answer the question about making money online as an affiliate one must say that the answer must be “Yes’ because unless these people promoting these products over and over again are complete fools then they must be making money as affiliate marketers.

Bum marketing or affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money online from home. It is basically promoting other people’s products for a commission. You can start for free or with very little capital and it is really not that difficult to learn. All you need to learn is how to promote products and/or services and the more skilled you become the greater your income.

Some affiliate marketing “how to” products recommend you begin by picking a hot market or niche and then find a product to promote to that market. Others suggest you begin with something that interests you because if you are interested then other people will be as well. The last method is good in that as you already know a lot about your market and thus you will be more interested doing the necessary research and more comfortable writing about it.

Which ever method you choose to find your market you need to do some keyword research. This is necessary to optimize your marketing to promote your chosen product. For keyword research you need a good keyword tool. Some are expensive and only available by subscription where as one of the best, the Google keyword tool, is free. You need to find keywords that people use to search for in your market but which also have only enough competition so that you are able to rank for them in the search engine results.

Always choose a product of high quality that is in demand in your target market. Before you promote your chosen product check that it has a reliable affiliate system in place and this system has reliable statistics available. Be very careful of merchants who collect email details on their sales pages as some will promote directly to these potential customers and cut the affiliate out of the loop. A good idea is to sign up yourself and check them out. Also make sure that the commission you will get paid is enough to pay you for the time you take to promote the product. Website design might seem quite easy but creating a marketing website that makes money does require much more than creating a website that just looks good. One needs to consider things like what their potential visitors want and how best to design a website to display this information. Let’s face it you only have a few seconds once a visitor lands on your site to capture their interest and to read about what you have to offer them.

This article will discuss some tips on what you need to do to keep people’s interest so that they remain on your website and at least read what you have to solve their problems or address their desires.

1. What Do Your Website Visitors Want?

Before you even think about the design of your website you need to know what your visitors want and how you can address these needs or desires so that they will be interested in your products and/or services. Most of your visitors will arrive at your website via either a search engine link, advertising link or from another website. You need to know what search term they used or the information that caused them to click that link through to your site. What problem or desire are they trying to solve? You also need to be able to grab their attention very quickly as most people will only quickly scan a site before they click away.

2. Design Your Website To Capture Your Visitors Attention.

Once you know what your visitors want and how to address these needs you need to consider how to design your website to quickly attract their attention and have them continue to read your content. The more products and/or services you offer the harder this will be for you to do. The reason is that you need to be able to focus your visitors attention on something they want and not get them confused by offering them way too much information or too many products.
