If you have an established website it is important to know who are the visitors to your site before joining any affiliate programs. Your chosen programs should be well targeted to this traffic that comes to your website.

If you do not choose programs carefully then you are wasting your time promoting them. This is because the people coming to your website are not interested in them. So take your time and do plenty of research as it will pay dividends for you in the long run.

Before joining an affiliate program review the affiliate site to check that you will be sending traffic to a website that is run by an honest and reputable merchant. You business depends on you referring people to only legitimate businesses otherwise you will lose their trust.

So check out the merchant’s website thoroughly reviewing the products, ordering procedures, design and layout of the page and so on. Choose only those affiliate programs that you would buy yourself as there is a good chance if you would not buy them then others might do the same.

Check that the merchant is contactable and they respond quickly. In other words contact them and test out their help desk and response times. If something goes wrong and the buyer contacts you then you must be able to contact the merchant and get a quick response. This is particularly important if you are promoting those instant commission programs that pay the money straight into your PayPal account. If you can not resolve the issue quickly the buyer is likely to turn nasty and demand their money back. If you can not resolve this issue quickly you will have to issue the refund not the merchant.

Most merchants supply marketing materials these days to their affiliates. Now even though I recommend that you should create and use your own marketing materials you can learn a lot about the merchant and his professionalism by checking out what he offers his affiliates. Check that they are current and as an example you will not be running Easter ads at Christmas time. Are they of good quality? Are the text emails and blog posts well written or just some rehashed ones? Good quality affiliate tools means that the merchant has invested time and money in them as well as his products.

Most importantly check the merchant’s terms of payment to his affiliates to make sure the program fits your requirements. If you want instant payment then you do not want a program that pays you in 60 days. Check out the payment thresholds. Most beginners will find it frustrating trying to reach high payment thresholds whereas seasoned marketers will not have a problem with them.

Taking all these affiliate program factors into consideration before you promote any programs will help you to choose the best programs for you needs and more importantly the requirements of your website visitors. Research and properly chosen affiliate programs will help you make a regular online income using affiliate marketing. For more information http://www.superteammarketing.com
