Hype Addiction and Home Business

This article was sent to me in an email but I think it is just so appropriate and fits what’s we are trying to accomplish at the RatingsHub Membership Review Site perfectly.

Internet Marketing can be so HYPED UP.

So frenetic.

So breathless.

There are time-limited bonuses, 1-time offers, pre-launch
discounts, fire sales and prices that escalate by 20 cents every 30
minutes.

“Don’t refresh this page or you will pay more.”

All these marketing tactics tend to create a feverish atmosphere.
You check your emails regularly because you don’t want to miss the
opening price break for a new product.

Professionally managed product launches are designed to get us all
pumped up, ready to grab one of the “only 200 licenses” that will
be issued for product XYZ when it’s released at 3pm Eastern time.

“Be quick to grab the early bird discount.”

“This product will be taken off the market after 300 copies are
sold. Get yours today or miss out.”

And on and on it goes.

***

Pause to breathe deeply and slowly.

***

When was it that you last stepped back and took an impartial view
of what’s going on here?

What works for you? How do you put enough distance between yourself
and the hype so you can see things as they are?

Sure, these breathless pulse-quickening promotional tactics work.
More product is sold. More dollars are banked.

But is this the way you want to be treated?

A few closing thoughts:

1. The word ‘addiction’ comes to mind. Addicts must have their
next fix. Are we addicted to marketing hype?

2. If you don’t need it, it is never a bargain.

3. While it is true that you can often get great discounts when
a product is first released (it’s part of building its market
presence), the product will usually be available later.

4. Sometimes others will buy the Master Resale Rights and sell
the thing cheaper in a few weeks. Sometimes even just a few days.

5. The time spent on hype addiction is time you could spend
building your business. Which one will deliver the best long term
results?
