Have you noticed even in the offline world people give stuff away to get potential customers interested in their business and what they have to offer them? These marketers then have the opportunity to build a relationship with these potential customers so much so some of them will eventually buy from them.

Now in the virtual world or online it not possible to invite people for cocktails to showcase what products and services they have to offer like they can in the offline world. Yes I know you are thinking about virtual cocktails but to me they lack the real interaction you get face to face at a real cocktail party where you can demonstrate your goods. People can touch, smell the products and in some case actually try them out themselves.

Offline you have the opportunity to actually meet your customers face to face so that they can get to know and trust you. Videos today help your customers to get to know you and trust you but they do still seem a bit mass produced and impersonal. One must remember that you have unlimited opportunities to get a video right but only one chance to make an impression with a potential customer in the real world.

That said, are short reports worth writing to give away? Will they help you to convince your potential customers that you are an authority on the products and services you are selling? The biggest problem will be to get them to read the report so it needs to have a compelling and enticing title and not contain rehashed stuff they have read many times before.

You will need a good title, something a little over the top to make them curious and want to find out what it is all about. Your report should be written like a letter to a friend and not full of technical jargon and 3 letter acronyms unless of course that is the language of your potential customers, for example, teenagers. Maybe inject a little humour and give a balanced report with both positives and negatives. It should definitely not be too sales orientated as you are not trying to sell them anything at this stage but trying to win their trust so that they will buy stuff from you in the future.
